Tool-Driven Security Assessment (TDSA)
Two weeks ago, I (Rauli) defended my PhD thesis, “Transparent and tool-driven security assessment for sustainable IoT cybersecurity”, at Oulu University. The thesis is available on the Internet (https://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:oulu-202406264941). It contains four years of IoT security research and experience I have gained during my 25+ years in cybersecurity. The thesis should be readable and engaging for non-academic audiences. Give it a try!
The thesis presents the Tool-Driven Security Assessment (TDSA) and provides some hard science on its applicability for IoT security. The main findings are the following:
All IoT building blocks contain cybersecurity issues
IoT security requirements vary between security standards, although common themes exist across IoT domains
The use of automation and tools allows more efficient security assessment and verification
In the Test of Things, we make the tool-driven security assessment accessible for the IoT industry and stakeholders. The aim is to provide some core technologies as open-source for the cybersecurity community. For our customers, we provide accessible and efficient cybersecurity testing and verification automation and related services. Please let us know if you are interested!
